Texas Instruments or TI DSC MSP430 is synonomous with quality, performance and price/performance. This 16bit digital signal controller is used in a wide variety of applications and excels in a wide variety of applications. It's claim to fame is the small size and the great price performance.
DSP implementations are often about volume and price/performance for OEM designers and Texas Instruments DSP group has played this game well. They introduced application specific processors for a variety of applications and dominated the market for cell phone processors worldwide. Other specific chips for motor control, multimedia applications and other general purpose DSP have been developed. DSPnano works on the TMS320C30 and TMS320C40 (since 1995), both older processors generally only used in traditional designs. It includes support for all 250 DSP routines along with a complete POSIX RTOS. Please consult the factory for details related to this DSPnano RTOS.
The older TMS family components have largely been displaced by the TI DSC MSP430. DSPnano will be ported to this new environment using Code Composer IDE upon demand by customers. The porting time will be less than four calendar weeks and the features provided will be defined by the limitations of the architecture. At a minimum, we expect the following features:
